How To Use The Quiet Time Journal

Updated: May 20, 2024

The Quiet Time Journal is perfect for women that long to grow in their understanding of scripture and want deeper intimacy with the Lord, but need help on making it a consistent habit.

The Quiet Time Journal will not only help you get started, it will also help you to stay rooted with daily prompts to pray for others, practice gratitude and meditate on what you've read.

Your Quiet Time Journal can be used at any time of the day. I've used mine at 5am, at 11pm right before I went to bed and every hour in-between.

The first place that you'll want to start is by filling out the The 90 Day Review & Plan on the first page.

This section will give you a beautiful snapshot of the season you were in, how God met you where you were and how He grew you. It will also help you to intentionally plan or set a goal for where you'd like to grow in the next 90 days.

Using The Quiet Time Journal Daily Pages

Next you'll turn to page 5 and start recording your quiet time.

I typically begin by filling in the days date and write in the bible passage or devotional that I will be reading for the day.

Gratitude

After that I start writing in 3 things that I am grateful for.

This is something that I have only just begun to do in the last year or so.

At first I thought that trying to find 3 different things everyday would be hard, but what I've found is that it stretches me to think deeper about all of the smaller blessings around me that I often take for granted.

Things like soft clean blankets on a warm day, unasked for kisses or hugs from my teenagers and even the ability to choose what shoes I'll wear that day.

I've also found since adding this practice to my day, that I complain less and have a more optimistic view of life.

It's hard to be a sourpuss or stay in a bad mood all day when everywhere you look, you see another blessing to be grateful for.

Prayer for Your Husband

Praying for my spouse is after gratitude, it not only increases my level of compassion towards him but it will also helps me to have more patience towards him while the Lord grows him into a better leader for our family.

I meet so many women whose marriages are failing or have hit a very rough spot and when I ask them how often they pray for their husbands, I hear silence.

We only have so much time on this side of Heaven and because our marriages are supposed to glorify God in good and hard times, we should commit to praying for the soul and needs or the very man we chose to marry.

Sometimes I will already have something in mind to pray for my husband on a particular day, but when I don't, I just go to the 3rd page of the Quiet Time Journal and I choose to pray for whatever the number that corresponds to that day is.

Prayer for Your Children

I don't know a single mama that doesn't love her children, but I do know plenty of mamas including myself, who can forget to cover them in prayer on a daily basis.

It's easy to pray for their protection when they are away from us, or to pray for their healing when they are sick but there are so many more things that we can cover in prayer over them.

On page 3 in the second column there is a prayer list similar to the one for your husband, this list however, has a few different needs and hopes to pray for as your children grow.

Again, like with your spouse, you may already have specific things to pray over your children on a particular day but when you don't, use this list to help you out.

Others I'm Praying For

I used to be a very reactionary prayer person, meaning I only thought to pray for others when there was a request made but not anymore.

Now I look with excitement for needs of friends, family and even neighbors. I pray for people I've met in the store or during a doctors appointment.

Prayer for others brings us before the throne of the Lord and invites us to stand in the gap for someone who may feel alone or afraid.

It removes our own selfishness as we intercede on behalf of people that we want the best for.

It also softens our hearts towards people that we can't stand to be around.

I've found that the more I pray for others, the more needs that I see in the world to pray about and the more compassion that builds up within me.

Sometimes I just list the names of others while other times I will list someone's name and their need.

My Thoughts For Today

Now is the time to complete your daily reading and start journaling or writing out your thoughts, questions and anything else that jumped out at you.

There have been times when I didn't have much to say so I did other things instead like:

- write out the scripture that I had read

- write out the reference verses to the scripture I read

- write out any promises or commands that I saw

- write out my feelings or everything racing in my mind

- write out a new song that popped into my heart

- write about an answer to prayer

- write out sermon notes

Honestly, the list can go on and on. The goal is just to record your faith journey so that you can go back to it from time to time and be reminded of what the Lord is doing in your life.

For me, this is the most important part because I want to hand my journals down so that my children and grandchildren can see how faithful God was to me in my struggles.

I want them to see that they were prayed for and brought before the Lord on a daily basis.

I want them to see my prayers, the wait and the answers so that their own faith can be built up.

We don't know how much time that we will have on this earth but our journals will continue to speak long after we are gone, and hopefully continue to point others to the Cross.

Bible Verse or Word to Meditate On

After you've read your chosen passage for the day and written your thoughts, here is where you'll write down the 1 verse, truth or word that stood out to you.

This will become the one thing that you chew on throughout the day to help bring your mind back to everything that you read earlier.

I can't tell you how many times that I have been filled with fear or temptation and one of the verses that I meditated on came to rescue me right on time.

My Prayer For Today

Finally we come to the end, this is where we write out the prayer for ourselves.

I used to think that this was a selfish thing to do and for a long time I had trouble going to the Lord for my own needs but not anymore.

This is one of the most impactful spaces in the journal because it shows you very clearly just how much the Holy Spirit has been changing your character and perspective.

This is where I ask for all of the things that I don't always feel comfortable saying out loud except to my small group.

This is also where I often give thanks to the Lord for something that I may have been having trouble with or when provision for a need was met.

Favorite Verses & Passages

I use the lines on page 4 to record favorite verses that I am trying to memorize, or passages that I can quickly come to for instant comfort or help.

I like to choose a new theme per season with each new journal that I start.

One season, you might list evangelism themed passages and verses to use for answering questions from those that aren't saved.

Another season, a theme might be listing different psalms or proverbs by topic.

You get to pick and choose based on the season that you are in, and the beauty of it is that over time you will have made a multitude of lists that you are able to use forever.

Well, that's everything on how to use the Quiet Time Journal.

My hope and prayer for you is that using your Quiet Time Journal will bless you greatly.

If you don't yet have one, I hope that you will please consider giving it a try or purchase one to give as a gift.

We donate a portion of every single sale to special needs adoptions and pregnancy centers so your purchase blesses many others. You can click on the image below for more information.

For His Glory & In His Name,
