Over the past 21 years, I've listened to countless moms share the many struggles that they face from day to day.
Struggles in their marriage, parenting and friendships, all the way to their homemaking, in-law relationships and their health.
The bad news is that we live in a fallen world, so it's pretty much guaranteed that we will face struggles.
The good news is that we don't have to face those struggles alone.
The Lord has been gracious and kind to leave us with generous promises and wisdom that never fail to help us as day to day issues pop up.
But in order to take advantage of that wisdom and those promises, you need to know them, and you will only know them if you spend time mining in His Word for them.
I get it, prioritizing daily bible reading can be tough.
We know that we should do it, and we even want to, but distractions, frustration from where to start or busyness from a never ending to do list easily keeps us from it.
Not only does life and our flesh make it difficult, we have to remember that we have an enemy that seeks to destroy us at every opportunity, and that enemy wages a daily war against us seeking time with our Savior.
What I've come to realize though is that if you fight to spend time daily in bible reading, not only will you be blessed, but so will everyone you encounter that day.
Time at the feet of Jesus, and in the daily bible reading, benefits us more than we truly understand so today, I want to share some of the unseen benefits that you'll reap when you fight for this precious time.
1. You Develop The Habit of Healthy Dependency
The world may depend on coffee, wine, talk shows and other distractions to get them through the day, but not you.
You have been given direct access to the Father so therefore, you only need to depend on him and his unfailing love for you.
When you prioritize the habit of spending time with the Lord in prayer, and in reading your bible, you will develop the beautiful habit of seeking the Lord first when hardships or problems arise.
You'll then begin to depend on him for all that you need.
2. You Develop A More Positive Outlook
Our world is filled with negative and toxic people that are just looking to pass their hurts and turmoil onto the next person. Daily time spent reading your bible will leave you with fresh hope and a positive outlook on life that rubs off on those that you encounter throughout the day.
You'll begin to repel negativity and attract other positive like minded people.
3. You Understand God's Character Better
While you can never fully understand God and his ways, the more you read your bible, the more you will see and understand his character.
This is such a blessing because the more familiar you get with God's character, the greater the desire will be to represent him well in your life.
4. You Are Reminded of God's Priorities For You
Life is full of decisions that need to be made, and each day, you will be tempted to make decisions that misalign your God given priorities.
Daily bible reading will keep you reminded of not only who you are in Christ, but also what your priorities should be in order to have the most impact in the lives of those entrusted to you.
5. You Become Better Equipped To Encourage Others
I can't tell you how many times I've read a bible passage during my quiet time only to use it later during a phone call with a friend in need.
Everyday is a new opportunity for calamity to strike and when we are steeped in the rich Word of God, we are able to share it as encouragement with a sister or brother in need.
6. You Grow Deeper In Your Faith
How can you not grow in your faith after reading the stories of past saints that God delivered or provided for in their great time of need or testing.
Every time you read about another promise of God fulfilled, your faith grows and you obey much faster because you are reminded that he will do for you what he did for them.
7. You See Your Sin More Clearly & Resist Temptation Faster
I don't know a single woman that does not want to have blessings flowing down on her, but when we sin, those blessings can come to a screeching halt while the Holy Spirit works on her hearts.
When you practice daily bible reading, you will be able to see your sin more clearly and deal quickly with it so that you don't waste precious time sitting in the awful cycle of shame or guilt.
You are also able to see temptation approaching and thus can ready yourself better to resist it.
8. You Become a More Generous Person
When you spend time in the presence of a generous and loving God, it's hard not to want to become more like him.
Selfishness easily slips away when you are reminded that the Lord's provision never runs out for his children.
9. You Gain Wisdom & Discernment
There is plenty of help in the Bible for any and every situation that you will face all throughout your day.
Daily time spent reading your bible is also daily time spent seeing the blessings and consequences received from both good and bad decisions made.
No matter what you need help with, there is a story, command or lesson in the bible that can help you to make wiser decisions.
You will also be able to discern much better which way to go in life, who to trust and what to do just from daily bible reading.
10. You Exude Contagious Joy
Happiness is short lived but joy runs deep, and a woman that has spent time with the Lord can't help but to become a fountain of joy that sprinkles everyone she encounters throughout her day.
11. You Develop Courage
Sharing your faith and living it out can get tough, especially when you run into opposition or hostility.
Daily bible reading can help you to choose courage each time instead of giving into fear because you are reminded of others that have gone before you, and of the mark that they left behind because they chose courage.
12. You Get Strength For The Day Ahead
Life is hard and as wives and mothers, we need all the strength that we can get.
Starting your day by unloading your fears at the feet of Jesus and then reading his loving words will greatly benefit you as he replaces your concerns with peace, and gives you the strength to not only carry on through the day, but also to leave an impact on those that you are responsible in caring for.
As you can see, time spent in daily bible reading can produce fruit that impacts not only yourself but others as well.
I sure hope that this list helps to remind you of the many blessings that you will receive when you prioritize daily bible reading.
In closing, the next time that you are tempted to skip your bible reading, remember what you'll be missing out on and run to the nearest bible.
For His Glory & In His Name,
